Professor, Scientific advisor
Dowling is a a renowned quantum physicist closely involved in the U.S. Government's development of quantum information science. In 2003 he co-authored the breakthrough paper, "Quantum Technology — The Second Quantum Revolution." He followed that up with his 2013 book, Schrödinger's Killer App: Race to Build the World's First Quantum Computer, which presents an inside look at the US Government's quest to build a quantum computer capable of solving complex mathematical problems and hacking the public-key encryption codes used to secure the Internet. Dowling has advised the government and industry on quantum technologies since 1994.
Dowling is the Hearne Chair Professor of Theoretical Physics and Co-Director of the Hearne Institute for Theoretical Physics, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Prof. Dowling received his PhD in Mathematical Physics from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, a Fellow of the American Physical Society, a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, and a Fellow of Optical Society of America.
